Rehabilitation Program: Verbal Memory

Click to try FREE for 15-Days.

This module includes perfect exercises to improve verbal memory. It also helps build a strategy (place words into categories for example) to effectively remember a list of words.

Elephant Memory

The task

The saying that elephants never forget is a true fact. Will the patient be able to build up memory over a few seconds or minutes and hold on to it? In this task, the user is presented with a grid of words to memorize. He will then be asked to recognize these same words from a longer list that also contains distraction or decoy words.

What it trains

In this exercise, the patient will practice his episodic memory through verbal material. Indeed, he has to store and retrieve several words. It also helps him build a strategy (place words into categories for example) to effectively remember a list of words without trying to learn it by heart as it takes too much mental effort.

Parameters

The parameters that can be selected are the number of words to memorize (6, 9, 12, 15, 20, or 25), the variety of themes (small, average or large), the memorization time (unlimited, 120, 90, 75, 60, or 40 seconds), and the time for recall (unlimited, 120, 90, 75, 60, or 40 seconds).

Number of Unique Configurations

Over 640 unique game configurations and significant data set depth.

Words, Where are You?

The task

This exercise consists of memorizing the location of several words on a grid, and then recalling them in the same spot in a grid as the user has seen them previously.

What it trains

Verbal memory is an essential skill for remembering conversations, doing crossword puzzles or keeping track of written material of any sort such as shopping lists or key elements of a novel. Further, we rely upon spatial memory when we try to recall the location of shops on a street, products in a grocery store or a friend's house in a neighborhood. This exercise trains the patient's visual and spatial memory and perception as it is about creating associations between two types of information, a word and its location. He needs to build a strategy to make a comprehensive association that would make their memorization easier. Then, he needs to be attentive and stay focused on the visual and spatial information.

Parameters

The parameters that can be selected are the type of word list (words of the same category or words without connections), the number of words (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10), the size of the grid (2x2, 3x2, 3x3, 3x4, 4x4, 4x5, or 5x5), the modalities of the words presentation (one after another, at the same time, or one by one), the memorization time per word (unlimited, 6, or 4 seconds), and the type of help (squares and words, squares selected, words selected, or no selection). The response time in the recall stage is unlimited.

Number of Unique Configurations

Over 3,700 unique game configurations and significant data set depth.

Split Words

The task

HAPPYneuron's most popular exercise with people of all ages. In this exercise, the goal is to form complete words by combining syllables. To make this exercise easier, words are categorized into themes.

What it trains

A person is searching for the name of a flower. It's on the tip of his/her tongue. He/She knows it starts with "am..." What is it? In fact, this task trains the patient's word knowledge and helps him practice to retrieve words from his language repertoire by using his capacity to anticipate and discriminate words which belong to the same lexical field (theme). Each syllable can be seen as a phonetic cue that facilitates word retrieval.

Parameters

The parameters that can be selected are the number of syllables (2 or 3), the number of words (4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, or 20), the time of response (unlimited, 5, 4, 3, 2, or 1 minute, the help resort (separated syllables, colored syllables, or no help), and the theme choice (manual or random).

Number of Unique Configurations

Over 640 unique game configurations and significant data set depth.
